Auto-save is an automated feature that helps save you time, by turning your invoices into bills. Our Intelligent Virtual Assistant (IVA) does the heavy lifting by extracting information from invoices that arrive to your inbox, turning them into bills, and pre-populating information so you don’t have to input it manually.
This feature is not yet available on all accounts, so if you don't see it, stay tuned!
By enabling auto-save, you can reduce manual data entry while speeding up the approval and payment process. You can still edit or delete bills later if you want to.
How auto-save works
When a document arrives in your inbox, IVA will detect and extract all the important information, converting it to a bill for you to review.
- Vendors send PDF documents to your Bill.com inbox
- IVA will detect and extract all the relevant details automatically for you
- Documents get converted to bills and moved to your “Bills” list for you to review, approve, and pay as needed.
That’s it! You can still review each bill before the review/approval process for payment, so you won’t miss any details.

|Documents sent to your inbox typically stay there until you or another user in your account has a chance to review.
Once reviewed, you can create a bill manually, using the scanned document to populate all the details, such as the vendor name, address, invoice amount, etc.
|With auto-save, IVA scans those documents and converts them automatically to bills, populating all the fields for you so you don’t have to enter them in manually, and saving the bill to your bills list.
This helps to reduce clutter in your inbox, automates data entry, and gives you time back in your day.
How to auto-save bills
You can turn on auto-saved bills when you are prompted in the inbox or when creating a bill.
Alternatively, you can enable or disable in the vendor's profile. We’ll offer this feature to you when you save at least one unchanged bill from the inbox for the vendor.
Enable or disable auto-save
Manage auto-save at the vendor level, where you can enable or disable at any time.
- Select Vendors in the navigation menu
- Select the vendor name
- Select Edit
- Turn it on or off in the Auto-Save Bills section
- Select Save
