Purpose
This article will guide you on how to manage custom dimensions with Sage Intacct. If your Bill.com account syncs with Sage Intacct, you have the option to use custom dimensions (also known as user defined dimensions) that will sync from Sage Intacct to Bill.com. You can then use those dimensions on bills.
Note: Custom dimensions will only work on bills for now. Vendor credits and purchase orders will be added in the future.
This feature is being phased in, so if you don't see it in your account yet, stay tuned!

Enable or disable custom dimensions
When custom dimensions are available on your account, the next time an Administrator user logs in, they'll see the offer to enable custom dimensions. Select Use Customer Dimensions to enable.
You can also enable or disable custom dimensions at any time in your accounting preferences:
- Select Settings
- Select Preferences under Accounting
- Select the Edit icon
- Select Yes for Enable Custom Dimensions to enable, or select No to disable
- Select Save
Activate or inactivate each custom dimension
After you enable custom dimensions, sync again to bring any existing custom dimensions from Sage Intacct to Bill.com.
After the existing dimensions have synced, activate up to 6 to use in Bill.com on bills:
- Select Settings
- Select Classifications
- Select Custom Dimensions
- Select Yes or No under Make Active to select the dimensions to use in Bill.com. You can have up to 6 active custom dimensions at a time.
Add, edit, or delete custom dimensions
Custom dimensions are view only in Bill.com, so if you need to add, edit, or delete them, make the changes in Sage Intacct and sync. The updates will sync to Bill.com.
Things to know:
- When you add a custom dimension, you'll need to activate the custom dimension before it'll be available to use on bills.
- When you add custom dimensions, the parent/child hierarchy as well as the mandatory setting will also apply in Bill.com.
- When you delete a custom dimension, the dimension will be removed from any existing bills and can't be used on any new ones.
- When you edit a custom dimension, the dimension will also update on any existing bills.
How custom dimensions sync
- Custom dimensions (also known as user defined dimensions) will sync one-way, from Sage Intacct to Bill.com.
- The parent/child hierarchy as well as the mandatory setting in Sage Intacct will sync to Bill.com.
- When you sync over a new custom dimension, you'll need to activate the custom dimension before it'll be available to use on bills.
- If you have more than 6 active custom dimensions in Bill.com, new ones won't sync in from Sage Intacct. You'll need to delete some in Sage Intacct so there are 6 or less active custom dimensions, then sync again.
- When you delete a custom dimension, the dimension will be removed from any existing bills and can't be used on any new ones.
- When you edit a custom dimension, the dimension will also update on any existing bills.
- If you have more than 6 custom dimensions on a bill that syncs from Sage Intacct to Bill.com, the bill will sync to Bill.com without custom dimensions.
- If you edit a bill in Bill.com that has more than 6 custom dimensions on it in Sage Intacct, the edits won't sync to Sage Intacct. Manually update the bill in Sage Intacct.
- To allow for the custom dimension to sync the coding on bills between Bill.com and Sage Intacct you'll need to create a view of the custom dimension to allow other users to view the dimension and use for reporting, Including the Web Services User.
